Tapered rollering bearings are often leakers. I followed TS's advice and
put hylomar (aka anaerobic sealer - the red stuff that doesn't harden) in my
housing end a few years ago and solved the leakage problem. We followed the
same advice while changing the assembly that TS mentions below and it hasn't
leaked yet. Lars had been complaining of leaks for several years prior to
the fix we did in Bishop.

If you're ever in Bishop and need parts, I highly recommend the "Two
Dicks" behind the counter at Carquest. Two older guys that know their
stuff. They have computers but they also have good old-fashioned parts
books. When Lars mentioned what he needed, Dick knew exactly what it was.
Didn't have to look it up - just went to the back and got it. They have
free popcorn too! Try that at your local Autozone.

On the recent Horde Invasion of Death Valley a 9" wheel bearing went
Tango Uniform in Big Pine, CA. The bearing found in Bishop, CA's Carquest
was a sealed unit with a seal in a groove in the outer race. NOT just an
O-Ring, but a real seal. Would be worth looking into this bearing.
That is all that I know about the part.

Mine leaks like crazy.... Several people have had this problem as
well. I
think there is a solution by putting some sort of sealant behind the
bearing. I have not done that yet. If anyone knows what this sealant
is
      let me know.
