[BFix] SMOG Test

You might be on to something with the cat. A few years ago we had a Jeep 4.0 that failed the same test you're talking about for high NO. I fussed with it a bit but never got it to pass (place had a free retest policy), so we ended up donating it (it was a beater, and hey, it was a Jeep). Later found out that they just replaced the cat and it passed just fine. I never questioned the cat because it was a fairly new replacement catco unit from summit.

  Subject: [BFix] SMOG Test

To keep this political and on topic I just failed my CA government mandated SMOG test this morning.

I have to go to a SMOG "only" station and they are forbidden to do anything but test the car. So I can't get much meaningful advise from them.

I have a 90-93 Stang 5.0 SEFI AOD setup in my 77. I failed the NO (ppm) test with 1078 (1015 max pass) @ 15mph and 1047 (875 max pass)@25mph. Last time I had it tested 2 years ago I also failed the NO and installed a new EGR and new Cat and passed.

How can I test the EGR system. to see if it is working correctly?

The cat I installed was a cheep catco from Summit, about $65. I have heard since that the catco cats are really junk and will only get you through one inspection. Anybody have any insight into this?

  Thanks
  Norm
