[BFix] Leaking injectors???

Yes, it was running. He says he checked the timing and it is dead on.

He is thinking it has to much fuel pressure. being over in pressure wouldn't hold an injector open would it?

And in theory the regulator will keep the pressure down too, so its not like the pressure would jump to 100psi and blow out the injectors...I bet his timing is off cause everyone thinks they got it right. I spent 7 days proving someone wrong once....Perhaps the plug wires are wrong. But then you said it was running, so who knows.

The pump only runs when the engine is running or cranking or for a couple of seconds after the key is turned to run - it won't keep cycling because of a leaking injector.

Well, he just called and said he drained the oil and it has gas in it. He is going to check his return line and make sure it is not plugged up. It is all new line except for where it enters the tank. I have a fuel pressure gage I'm going to take over and see what he has on the Hi-pressure side as well.

Oh ya...he now has some new push rods too.

If they did fill up with gas then yep it could bend a rod. If he left the key in the on position and his injectors are leaking then the pump would continue to cycle as the pump loses pressure. In theory it sounds good but I have never heard of it happening.

OK, I just got a call from my buddy I'm helping swap an 88 5.0L into his EB. The thing has been running good after we got the vacuum line hooked up to the MAP sensor. Last night he went to start it and wouldn't roll over. The old battery he has in it is pretty tired so he tried to start it again and it blew a "heave mist" as he said out the throttle body. On the 3rd try it did start but now ticks like crazy! He pulled some plugs and found them soaked with gas. Further investigations found 7 of the 8 intake push rods are now bent. He has rechecked his timing and it is OK. He is thinking the injectors may be leaking and filling the cylinder with gas. Could this bend a push rod? One other note. He *thinks* he may have left the key in the run position after the engine stalled out on him earlier in the day. Would that allow the pump to keep building pressure at all?

TIA for any suggestions on where to look next.

Ken
