[BFix] I want an electric car

But if you look at it from a purely selfish point of view, isn't it cheaper
to operate than a gas car even if you factor in the battery replacement and
disposal costs?

Pure electrics look good at first glance. If you factor in all of the energy
transmittance and conversion losses I highly doubt that they are actually
more efficient. Start with looking at how much power has to be generated at
your local plant to charge your car. The efficiency in that part of the
system is appallingly low, lower than the power production efficiency of an
Infernal Combustion (IC) engine in a vehicle.
Then look at the emissions generated per unit of energy consumed by the end
user. I suspect that the results will be appalling even though the plants
now run fairly clean.

These are the dirty "secrets" that the Electric Vehicle lobby never
mentions. Makes me wonder if they are even aware of them.

The energy density of the best affordable battery chemistry for an EV is
nowhere close to that of a hydrocarbon fuel. So the Mass to Range ratio of
an EV really sucks compared to an IC powered vehicle.

Now, if you have access to a free charging station............
